Fro
ntPage Extensions

When using FrontPage extensions please be sure to install the FrontPage option in the control panel prior to uploading any files. Failure to do this can cause error messages in FrontPage when uploading files.

Usi
ng FrontPage

If you plan to use FrontPage you must be sure to upload to your site using the publish commands in FrontPage only. You can not use both an FTP program and the publish command in FrontPage. Failure to do this can cause damage to the appearance of the site.

Uploading Your Files

To upload your files, you will need a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. We suggest using the shareware programs CuteFTP or WSFTP for the PC and Fetch for the Mac. Please note that you need to be logged in on your Internet Service Provider to connect to your site with FTP.

When uploading your files, the home page needs to be named index.html and the files need to be uploaded into the domain-www directory.

You can download WS_FTP from  http://www.ipswitch.com/pd_wsftp.html or if you are a student, faculty or staff member of an educational institution, US Government employee, or for home (non-business) purposes you can download this free version WS_FTP.

You can also find the above programs at http://search.shareware.com/

Click here to see the FTP Settings

If you want to Telnet to your site, you need to use SSH software. We suggest SecureCRT for the PC and that is available at www.vandyke.com or Nifty Telnet for the Mac which might be found at
http://search.shareware.com/

Registering Your Site with Search Engines

Search engines use keywords to match users' interests with web sites. You need to go to the search engine site to register. Some popular ones are Fish the Net, 711.net, yahoo.com, altavista.com and infoseek.com. Once you have registered with the search engines, it will probably take a few weeks before you are listed in their indexes.

To add keywords to your site

If you are using Ark Webs's Site Creation Tool, go to "Classify" and enter your keywords there.

If you created your site with HTML, you need to add the following code in between the <HEAD> tags.

<meta name="keywords" content="enter keywords here separating them with commas with most important keywords first">

    <meta name="description" content="write a description of your site here">
