Five Ways to
Avoid Spam |
|
|

- Do not put your email address on
public websites. If your email address is listed on a
public site, it can be harvested by spammers who comb the web
looking for new email addresses to target.
- Make your email address hard to
guess. If you have an address that consists of simply a
first name and domain (like Jennifer@domain.com), it is an easy
one for spammers to guess. You might consider adding your last
name or numbers to your email address to make it harder to spam.
- Do not reply to any spam you receive.
Because spammers guess at email addresses to add to their files,
you should never reply to spam or interact with it in any way
(including requests to unsubscribe). Doing so tells the spammer
that the address is valid, which sets you up for more spam.
- Be careful when registering for
anything online. If you are shopping or signing up for
things online, make sure you are only doing so on sites that have
a privacy policy. You should also read the policy to make sure
they are not able to give your email address or other information
to unnamed partners.
- Do not give your email address out in
chat rooms. If you use chat rooms, use an alias rather
than your email for identification. Chat rooms are prime areas for
email harvesting.
